Cheryl Sciutto and some colleagues in the public school system had such great success with their students after initiating kinesthetic learning techniques. It worked so well with students with learning disabilities, they wondered if all kids could benefit from using movement to learn, and the answer was YES! All kids learned concepts better with movement. This lead down the path of figuring out why these techniques worked so well and what more can we do to help students even more. One day an Occupational Therapist, (OT) was working with a student in Cheryl's classroom. They were bouncing a ball and standing on a balance board. Cheryl had to know what they were doing and what the brain research was behind these exercises. That is when she was introduced to Bal-A-Vis-X for the first time. Cheryl contacted the founder of Bal-A-Vis-X, Bill Hubert to inquire about a training. He sent her to Terry Tinney and Anne Wheaton in Oro Valley, AZ. She and her colleagues have been following the program and utilizing Bal-a-Vis-X in there settings ever since.
I believe that learning should be interactive and engaging. That's why I use a variety of teaching methods, including Bal-A-Vis-X, (Balance, Auditory,Vision Exercises), games, and real-life examples, to make learning fun and effective. Students learn best when their body/mind systems are integrated. Bal-A-Vis-X helps this integration and the students mind is ready for learning!
I am blown away by how far my son has come using Kinesthetic Regulation! Today he showed me some of the Bal-A-Vis-X techniques he has learned. For the record, when he started there, he had a hard time bouncing one racquetball. Today he bounced two balls back and forth with a teacher, including behind his back, while standing on a wiggly balance board. I am so impressed!
Then in the car on the way home, he explained to me about how he was firing up his neurons to talk to one another and he would like to teach his brothers to do the same thing. And honestly, this is only the tip of the iceberg with all the stuff he has learned. Thank you Kinesthetic Regulation! You are amazing!
